Christmas Markets in Europe

Berlin Christmas Markets

Discover some fabulous Berlin Christmas Markets where the air is filled with the aroma of food and drink; enticing you to indulge in the many Christmas treats whilst you begin your Christmas shopping. Head for Berliner Weinachtszeit located behind Alexanderplatz. With stalls displaying hand-crafted Christmas goods in all shapes and sizes but, beware - you might get distracted by Iceworld at the Neptune Fountain. It’s one of Berlin’s most beautiful ice rinks. The young and old alike can rent a pair of ice skates and glide upon the ice as you soak up the atmosphere. You might even catch a glimpse of the ice rink show.

One thing’s for sure you’ll definitely see the 50m colourful Ferris wheel! This magnificent landmark enables you to enjoy some of the best views of Berlin, extending to Brandenburg  Gate and even the Radio Tower. It’s the perfect interlude before you recommence some glorious Christmas shopping around these beautiful Christmas Markets!

Hamburg Christmas Markets

In Hamburg you’ll be spoilt for choice  - there’s over 30 to choose from and here’s a few to get you started -

  • City Centre Christmas Market  at Spitalerstrasse, not far from Hamburg Central train station; with plenty of stalls to delight your eyes including handicrafts, art and design. They’ll be must-have treats on offer including gluwein and steaming hot chocolate, ideal to keep you warm on a crisp winter’s night.
  • If cosy drink booths and fairytale surroundings are what you’re after then head to the stunning Bergedorf  Castle, the grounds become transformed into a Christmas Market offering gifts and delights as well as handicraft workshops for children.
  • For something quite magnificent head to Rathausmarkt  Square - it’s the largest of the Christmas Markets and found near city hall. The decorated stalls sell handmade toys, glassware and jewellery with Santa Claus making regular appearances as he hovers across the market in his sleigh.

Also, if you visit in December, a special highlight of  Christmas in Hamburg is the Hamburg Christmas Parades, every Saturday in the run up to Christmas you’ll see dancing angels, prancing elves and jolly Santa Clauses as they parade through the city centre twice a day.
