A Charity Adventure – On Your Bike!
Commercial Director, Ian Newbold, took the brave decision to enter the London to Brighton bike ride of 54 miles, which took place last Sunday, 16th June 2013.
After training hard for 6 months, cycling 25 miles every day on the commute, long weekend rides, notching up nearly 4000 miles and also losing 3.5 stone in the process he entered Sunday’s charity ride in peak condition. He finished the challenge in 3hrs 25mins, including tackling the dreaded Ditchling Beacon without stopping, passing cyclists falling like flies all the way up the infamous climb.
When asked, Ian stated ‘I am so pleased with this achievement, I only started cycling a year ago and couldn’t bike more than a mile back then without fatigue, so if ever anyone questions their own ability to achieve something I would always point this out – you can do it if you put your mind to it and stay focussed on the end goal! It was such a rewarding challenge and fantastic to be part of such a special event. Thanks especially to my colleagues and business contacts for their support and encouragement throughout – now onto the next challenge!’
His efforts have proved worthwhile, so far approximately £750 has been raised for the nominated charity, British Heart Foundation, with the support of The Travel Adventure and other key business partners.
Special mentions need to go to so many people for supporting the event including: all the staff at The Travel Adventure, The Kings Ferry, Dover’s Coaches, Peake’s Coaches, Brian Cook Associates, Infinity Insurance, Hamilton House Mailings, Sarah Thomson Writing Services, Sunset Design, Mistral Travel as well as numerous other friends and colleagues.
Next stop, London to Paris in 2014!
