Budapest is home to a host of Christmas Markets but Vörösmarty Square is the oldest, richest and the most spectacular of all the Christmas Markets in Budapest, and located in the heart of the City. Your senses will come alive with the smells, colours, sights and sounds of Christmas. As you wind in and out of the stalls with Christmas light twinkling above, choose from a colourful array of gifts to purchase including traditional wooden gifts carver and created lovingly by local craftsmen. As your shopping get under way be sure to try some local Hungarian delicacies. Feast your eyes on the Kurtoskalacs (Chimney Cake) a sweet spiral shaped pastry, Langos - Hungarian fried bread and Dodolles - a delicious meat-free type of dumpling.
They'll also be free entertainment to keep the Christmas vibe buzzing with several free concerts in the late afternoon; filling the air with a wide range of music including folk, jazz, crossover, indie, blues, soul and world music. And, if you head for Cafe Gerbeaud you'll notice crowds flocking to enjoy the delightful festive light painting show on the beautiful facade of this enchanting cafe.
