This tour takes you on a captivating journey through the best of Vietnam and Cambodia, to spectacular countryside filled with rice fields to the hustle and bustle of Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh city and visit the world famous Angkor Wat.

 

Over 16 days, your group will experience the natural beauty of this part of South East Asia, marvel at the beautifully crafted temples and marvel in the myriad of sights and sounds of the bustling markets.  Take in some of the ancient and modern history of the area with this supported tour of Vietnam and Cambodia

Day 1

Depart from London to Hanoi

Day 2

Arrive in Hanoi early morning after your overnight flight and transfer to your hotel. After lunch head out on a city tour of the Ho Chi Minh estate and Stilt house, before a Cyclo ride around the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Enjoy an evening meal followed by the entertaining Water Puppet Theatre Performance

Day 3

Coach transfer via Red River Delta to UNESCO World Heritage Site of Halong Bay where you will embark your Junk boat. Enjoy lunch while you cruise around the exceptionally beautiful bay with 1697 islets. Enjoy dinner on board tonight.

Day 4

You will have some free time for tai Chi or a swim, as we sail through the islands. After lunch, transfer to Hanoi for the flight to Hue. Upon arrival in Hue you will transfer to the hotel for an evening meal.

Day 5

This morning take a coach tour of Hue city, you will see why so many of its monuments are much regarded UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This afternoon take a cruise on the Perfume River and later enjoy an evening meal followed by shopping at the bustling Dong Ba market.

Day 6

Travel by train to Danang and onwards by coach via the Marble Mountains to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hoi An. Have lunch at a local restaurant and wander around Hoi An Ancient Town on a free afternoon. Enjoy an evening at leisure.

Day 7

Take a walking tour of the highlights of Hoi An this morning. Then visit a lantern making factory and learn how to make a Hoi An traditional lantern yourself, a lovely memento of your tour. You will have an evening at leisure.

Day 8

Transfer to the airport for flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Take a tour of Ho Chi Minh City and see the highlights including District 1 with its boulevards and French colonial buildings. Enjoy an evening meal at a local restaurant.

Day 9

This morning we head to the Cu Chi tunnels, a famous underground network with over 200kms of tunnel. They were used during the 1960′s as Viet Cong’s operations base during the Vietnam War. You’ll get the chance to go inside and learn all about how the tunnel network operated. The afternoon is spent back in Ho Chi Minh City and time at the War Remnants Museum before dinner and an evening at leisure.

Day 10

Today we set off to the Mekong Delta and take a Sampan to the floating market and the local countryside connecting via the canals off the Mekong. This evening enjoy and evening meal at a local restaurant and overnight in Chau Doc.

Day 11

Setting off for Cambodia, we take a 5 hour speed boat trip arriving into Phnom Penh for a tour of the city including the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 12

A city tour highlights include the ‘Killing Fields’ and Toul Sleng Prison Museum giving a meaningful insight to the painful and bloody regime of the Khmer Rouge. After lunch a trip to the Russian Market is followed by Dinner and a cruise along the river.

Day 13

Transfer to Siem Reap via the Spider Market and a stone carving workshop. Visit to Angkor Wat, the 12th century architectural masterpiece and covering an area of 210 hectares, it is the worlds largest religious complex. Within this massive area see the many galleries, libraries, pavilions, courtyards and lotus ponds which reflect the towers of the temple.

Day 14

Visit the Floating Village of Kompong Pluk by a wooden boat. See Cambodian houses on stilts and the flooded forest before reaching Tonie Sap Lake, one of the largest in Asia. Watch the fishermen in action. Continue to the ancient ruins of Angkor Thom, the last capital or the ancient Khmer empire. At the South Gate are the huge faces, all carved in stone. Amongst other temples see the terraces of the Elephant and terrace of the Leper king.

Vietnam

Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh City - Spend time in Vietnam’s vibrant cities exploring the contrast of how the historic and modern day life blend together into a unique experience.  Ho Chi Minh (formerly Saigon) has retained it French colonial flavour with boulevards and cafe’s.

Halong Bay - Cruising around the spectacular Halong bay offers  time to relax and take in the true beauty of this amazing country.  This is one of the world’s natural wonders with thousands of limestone karsts and islets, some are hollow with enormous caves. You will see the many fishing villages along the coast and the spectacular scenic countryside of lush rice fields

Hue - The ancient royal capital of Hue, the imperial city is modelled on the Forbidden City in Beijing, was the last capital of a united kingdom of Vietnam in 1802, Vietnams last dynasty, the buildings will give a good idea into the court life of the Nguyen Dynasty.

Hoi An - A well preserved ancient town cut through with canals and tree lined streets with well preserved wooden shops. The history of the town shows through a mixture of buildings featuring not only Vietnamese styles but also Chinese and Japanese architecture.  Its a fantastic place to shop for traditional lanterns and  have some made to measure clothes made by local tailors.

Mekong Delta - Float along the fascinating waterways of the Delta, taking in the small settlements along the bankside, wildlife and scenery.  The floating markets are a must as you see how the river is such an important part of local trade.

Cambodia

Phnom Penh - A tour of the ‘Killing Fields’ and Toul Sleng Prison Museum giving a meaningful insight to the painful and bloody regime of the Khymer Rouge, which has shaped this country.

Siem Reap - With an incredible array of temples of which the most important is the huge complex of Angor Wat which must rank alongside the most important ‘must see’ locations anywhere. Closer to the city are a number of Hindu shrines and temples
